How the TfL SERU Assessment works
The TfL SERU assessment — Safety, Equality and Regulatory Understanding — is the test every new London private-hire driver must pass to get licensed. It has around 36 questions in a mix of formats (multiple choice, sentence completion, and reading), you need 60% to pass, and you get roughly an hour. It's open-book: you can refer to the Private Hire Driver's Handbook during the assessment, but it's timed, so the drivers who pass already know the material and use the handbook only to check. You currently get two attempts — fail both and your licence application is cancelled — so it pays to go in genuinely ready.
The best way to prepare is to practise under real conditions until you’re consistently above the pass mark. Each test here is scored instantly and explains every answer, so you learn as you go.
